F. HEAT & THERMAL SPECIALTY INFORMATION

HEAT & WET SPECIALTY AREA INFORMATION ALL TO BE SOURCED BY ARCHITECT/INTERIOR DESIGNER, CONTRACTOR/OWNER
Heat and wet treatment areas can include some and/or all of the following:
  • Steam Room, Sauna, Salt Inhalation Room, Whirlpool, Cold Plunge, Water Features, Pools, etc.
  • A general design idea for wet and heat features is provided by Curry Spa Consulting, based on the study of the project and ownership goals.
  • Details and MEP requirements are not specified by Curry Spa Consulting and must be specified by the manufacturers and engineer/architect based on budget and code requirements. This equipment requires coordination with equipment manufacturer, pool consultants and MEP team to ensure proper preparation for water, gas, and electrical loads.
  • Tile and finishes are to be chosen by the Interior Designer.
  • Some equipment can be purchased through spa equipment distributors or the manufacturer directly.
  • Complex wet and heat facilities should be designed and specified by a heat equipment manufacturer designer. Curry Spa Consulting will provide introductions to specialty manufacturers who design the features, plan MEP areas required, and provide the equipment. Most will charge a design fee up front, that will be credited back to the equipment purchase. Curry Spa Consulting provides reputable recommendations for thermal designers/manufacturers and assist with development of RFP.
  • The following pages provide examples of steam and sauna installation guides. Specific sizing and finished and mechanical space must be taken into consideration for all specialty areas.
  • Basic requirements:
    • Steam Rooms – Wet Heat (room is wet 12-15 hours per day)
      • Low ceilings to keep heat – 8’ manufacturer recommendation
      • Steam heads/outlet away pushes steam upwards avoiding member direct contact
      • 18” above the finished floor and no more than 30” above the floor
      • Sloped ceilings to prevent dripping
      • Cold-water plumbed from generator
      • Space for two tiers of benches
      • Tiles on all surfaces of steam room with drain
      • Glass door – no aluminum framed doors
      • Digital control and emergency button – TBD by Operator
      • Steam generators cold water plumbed and accessible by staff access
    • Saunas – Dry Heat
      • Low ceilings to keep heat – 8’ manufacturer recommendation
      • Concrete room holds a cedar wood kit of custom size by sauna manufacturer
      • Electrical outlet for sauna heater

  • The countertop will offer adequate workspace and an area for a coffee maker & a phone
  • Millwork above should have adjustable shelving
  • At one wall, there should be a data screen that offers schedules for all stylists and nail technicians
  • Area is similar to a small residential kitchen without stove
MILLWORK LOCKS REQUIRED
  • All storage cabinetry should be lockable
  • Lower cabinets will store 5-gallon buckets of product

SALON & BARBER ROOM

FLOORS
  • High quality linoleum, vinyl, or wood.
  • Avoid tile or other hard surface finishes which can be noisy and magnify sounds
  • All flooring should be non- porous and easily cleaned; hair washing and styling areas, nail polish, alcohol and acetone in manicure and pedicure areas
CEILINGS, WALLS & MOLDINGS
  • Sheetrock or upgraded finish with strong, bright lighting package.
  • Hair and makeup treatment areas require exceptional lighting with specific lamp temperatures.
  • Specific lamp color temperatures TBD by lighting consultant
  • Specific focused lighting in pedicure areas for polish application
  • Wall hooks for member robes and clothing
MILLWORK
  • Salon fixture list specified by ID. Salon is design driven.

  • High humidity areas may require waterproof barrier and waterproof materials as per waterproofing consultant
