Discovery Well Being Design Approval Process

The design approval process is composed of the following steps. Each step requires review and comments from a Discovery Well Being representative prior to moving on to the next step.
New construction or renovation work for any Discovery Well Being facility shall adhere to this process. Architects and designers must submit all drawings, finishes, and FF&E packages to their respective Discovery Well Being representative for review and approval.
 
1. Orientation Meeting:
Schedule a preliminary meeting including the project’s primary representatives (ownership, management, and Discovery Well Being representative) to determine the initial project requirements, goals, and objectives.

2. Market Research and Feasibility Study:
Conduct a market research and feasibility study to determine the appropriate size, scope, and financial expectations for the facility. The study analyzes the location, membership profile, and forecast demand indicators, and delivers a five-year financial pro forma and architectural program to support the facility’s financial model.

3. Architectural Program:
The Discovery Well Being team will prepare a program identifying necessary square meter and/or foot allocations, treatment room inventory, signature spaces, and support spaces necessary to implement an operationally sound facility in the allocated footprint.

4. Design Immersion:
The architect and designer will meet with the Discovery Well Being team to review the overall brand strategy, goals, objectives, and look and feel of the Discovery Well Being identity.

5. Initial Design Concept:
A Discovery Well Being representative will review the initial concept. The concept design package should include:
  • Design inspiration references
  • Samples of key materials
  • Direction for furniture shapes/pieces
  • Preliminary plans and sketch elevations for all signature areas and other important spaces included in the scope of work

6. Design Development:
A Discovery Well Being representative will work with the architect and designer throughout the DD phase in order to help guide strategic planning and verify programmatic and facility requirements.

7. Design Presentation:
After the concept has been approved, the design firm will present a formal design presentation to the representative. This should include:
  • Complete floor plans and elevations
  • Final color boards
  • All key architectural finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment
7a. Re-submittal:
If required, the design firm will resubmit any items identified as needing revision. This process may be repeated should further re-submittals be required.

8. FF&E Specification Review:
The Discovery Well Being representative will review the final furniture, fixtures, and equipment specifications and final drawings for the project for compliance with brand objectives. The designer will submit:
  • All furniture fixture and equipment drawings
  • Finishes and schedules
  • Specification book with samples
8a. Re-submittal:
If required, the design firm will resubmit any items that require revision. This process may be repeated should further re-submittals be required.

9. Construction Documents:
The design firm will submit construction documents illustrating the work to be carried out including:
  • All plans, (floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, finish plans, furniture plans, elevations, details, electrical plans, mechanical plans, fire sprinkler plans, etc.)

10. Construction:
Discovery Well Being representatives will be available to assist the design and construction team with questions and issues throughout the construction process.

11. Operations and Management:
Concurrent with construction, the Discovery Well Being team will prepare for the opening by assisting Discovery Land Co. with the Discovery Well Being staffing process, including: training staff, ordering supplies, coordinating activities with other DLC departments, and developing menu and programming strategies.

12. Final Installation Follow-up:
Upon completion of the installation, the contractor and design team shall:
  • Submit photos of the finished installation
  • Submit 2 bound copies of an operations manual for cleaning, repair, and maintenance instructions for all equipment and finishes.
