Specify furniture and corresponding finishes to address the unique requirements of spa operations. Selected finishes should be not only comfortable and attractive but durable and easily maintained by the maintenance staff.

Guidelines

Consider the following guidelines when specifying furniture.
Fabrics:
Fabrics:
  • Ensure all seating fabrics are of commercial quality, conforming to local building codes with the appropriate flame retardants required.
  • All fabrics must be first quality goods, no roll ends or seconds. All fabric to be stretched and wrinkle free.
  • At a minimum, seating fabric must exceed the Wyzenbeek test for no less than 30,000 double rubs.
  • Specify outdoor rated fabrics at all outdoor furniture or furniture exposed to a great deal of sunlight. Ensure fabrics are fade resistant, mildew resistant, and bug proof. All outdoor fabrics to be solution dyed acrylic.
  • Select fabric patterns and prints that have soil concealing properties and are easily cleaned. Avoid whites and light colored solids.
  • All fabrics will be subject to oils and lotions, as a result, select fabrics and patterns that resist and/or hide these substances.
  • Select fabrics that have a protective finish against oils and stains. The finishes should encourage dirt to “sit up” on fabrics, making them easy to brush or vacuum.
  • Consider the use of specialty finishes such as Gore, Nano-tex, Crypton or similar finishing’s to enhance the durability of a fabric.
  • Less durable fabrics may be used as accents for such items as pillows which can be replaced or recovered easily.
  • Provide scrubbable, moisture resistant fabrics at all Chi Chairs, Energy Chairs and locker room locations.
  • Drapery fabrics to pass NFPA 701 or equal.
