Gender Specific Waiting Lounges

Objective

At larger spas or those with cultural mandates, provide a gender specific waiting lounge to read magazines or relax before and after appointments. Attendants greet guests in the lounge and escort them to the appropriate treatment space.
At larger spas or those with cultural mandates, provide a gender specific waiting lounge to read magazines or relax before and after appointments. Attendants greet guests in the lounge and escort them to the appropriate treatment space.

Space Planning

Place the lounge contiguous with the respective locker areas and conveniently accessible by a guest hallway to the spa treatment areas. The space plan should prohibit views from the lounge area into the other locker areas as Attendants from the opposite sex will be greeting guests. If space for the relaxation lounge is not available adjacent to the locker areas, locate the lounge in a clear path to the treatment areas.

Design Features

Features:
Features:
  • Locate the lounge away from active areas.
  • Acoustically isolate this space from active areas.
  • If the project and climate conditions allow, consider integrating outdoor spaces with the waiting lounge.

  • Include a focal feature within the room or views to the outside. Focal features might include fireplaces, water feature, art, or libraries.
  • Ensure a mixture of chaise and lounge seating with ottomans to accommodate conversations and introspection.
  • Include a self service beverage station.
  • Include magazine and newspaper storage
  • Optional: flat screen television(s)
